The Picture Works present: 67 minutes

An epic and last-minute adventure into the darkness by an unknown company director and script from deepest Wales to South Africa and beyond.

3 Welshmen and 1 wilted English rose gatecrash Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday party. Although the whole world was watching – it wasn’t your average party. It wasn’t even a political party either – and yet it was.

On the way, they discovered what Mandela means to the people, how they celebrate and how many of them they give 67 minutes back. The artistic / autistic director also went on a detour into the mountains to retrace his own father’s steps 20 years earlier and attempt to fill in his lost years.

There was high-speed driving, airport fiascos and missing crew before they even left the UK. On arrival there was a driver called Freedom, a live link to a Welsh village and a midnight scene outside Mandela’s house. From there they helped to paint a home for abused children, gave out fruit at a hospital and tracked down some likely future heroes.

Everywhere, people got involved and many more followed.  Some even wanted to be there. There was also tears of laughter and emotion, a religious misunderstanding, a deleted scene involving the 31,000ft high club and an irritating child wearing purple. 67 minutes was never going to be enough to cover this much kindness.
